BLACKED OUT

with one comment

The Coinologist is joining Wikipedia, Craigslist, Reddit, and many others in a blackout to oppose  SOPA and PIPA.  Of course you won’t be able to follow the links today because of the blackout.  These two bills in Congress are meant to stop the illegal copying and sharing of movies and music on the Internet, but major Internet companies say the bills would put them in the impossible position of policing the online world. Check out this short list of companies /people who are for or against this:

Supporters of PIPA and SOPA: RIAA, MPAA, News Corp, TimeWarner, Walmart, Nike, Tiffany, Chanel, Rolex, Sony, Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren, VISA, Mastercard, Comcast, ABC, Dow Chemical, Monster Cable, Teamsters, Rupert Murdoch, Lamar Smith (R-TX), John Conyers (D-MI)

Opponents of PIPA and SOPA: Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, craigslist, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, eBay, AOL, Mozilla, Reddit, Tumblr, Etsy, Zynga, EFF, ACLU, Human Rights Watch, Darrell Issa (R-CA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Ron Paul (R-TX)

Chromebook

with one comment

I’m an Apple man through and through, but the whole idea of hardware, software, and accessing the web is changing.  Welcome the Chromebook, Google’s new venture into the personal digital experience.  The Chromebook is made for Connectivity,” built for Speed, and has on board Security.  This could just be the new way we all access the web, so if you are a forerunner in electronics, be ready for the June 15th launch.

A week in Silicon Valley.

To make this an official coast to coast trip I ventured up to the San Francisco Bay Area.  I am a previous resident and I still have family here. I lived here when the dot com bubble was bubbling, but was to busy doing finance at the time.  This made me pretty much oblivious to the whole thing. Of course the phone I am writing this post with is a super computer compared to what I had at home at the time.  With Apple, Google, Intel, eBay, and many more surrounding me.  It is an amazing feeling standing on this hallowed ground.
