Utah. Life Elevated.

Coming into Utah on Highway 50 it was dusk and I stopped and snapped this picture with the flash on.  It lit up the sign with all the glory of 80’s neon.

Highway 50. The Loneliest Road in America.

leave a comment »

What a great way to experience Nevada!  Highway 50 the so-called “Loneliest Road in America.”  It roughly parallels the Pony Express Trail, which takes me back to the wild west when gold and silver fever was abound.  There are some great little mountain towns like Austin and Eureka that can take you back in time as well.

I made it to Wilson, Kansas.  I wonder why I picked this city. A great days drive at 865 miles. Let’s see if I can do it again tomorrow. What a beautiful country. Pictures to follow in future posts.

Road Warrior Stretch

Time has flown, so I must be having fun.  The road trip started way back on August 25th.  Having lived out west for almost twenty years, I guess there were just too many people to visit and spend quality time with.  This leads to the Road Warrior segment of the trip, I plan on doing some serious driving these next few days.  I will be leaving Fountain Green, UT, and power driving to Atlanta, GA. I  hope to get a good night sleep there and off to Saint Simons the next day!

1988 BMW Sport Bike

with one comment

While on my journey I came across this awesome find.  It’s a 1988 BMW Sport Bike.  I talked to the owner, who bought it new in 1988 and clocked every one of the 103,218 miles on the odometer.  If you know motorcycles, this is an incredible feat.  I was too excited to ask the model name, so if anyone knows please comment.  I love the graphics on the lower fairing, it’s so 1980’s BMW.

Road Trip, East to Utah.

leave a comment »

Ok, after a long stay in the Reno/Tahoe area, due to the rich numismatic history, the road trip continues.  I am finally heading east to the State of Utah.  A place for skiing, hiking, and just enjoying the beautiful outdoors.  It also has a rich history in the coin business.  There are a few big players in the Salt Lake City and surrounding areas.  I hope to be meeting up with Lake’s Rare Coins for some good numismatic conversation.

Meeks Bay Camping, Lake Tahoe, West Shore.

I truly am trying to go east.  I just seem to keep going west.  My old friend  Morgan and I had to give his new Travel Trailer a proper breaking in.  We drove up to Meeks Bay on the west shore of Lake Tahoe.  A great camp ground with power and water hook ups for the full RV experience.  This was camping at its roughest.  Great Music, TV, Xbox, Home Theater, libations,  and a meal fit for kings.  This camp also has an incredible beach.  I will let the photo’s do the talking.

The Nugget, Carson City, NV

with one comment

The intersection of North Carson Street and Robinson Street is a true golden triangle in the coin world. You have the CC Mint, Northern Nevada Coin, and The Carson Nugget. Holding true to its name the Nugget has the World’s Rarest Gold Collection. It is an impressive sight of magnificent gold nuggets. So put this one on your list and try not to hold your jaw up while looking at all that gold.

Northern Nevada Coin, Carson City, NV

Located right across from the Historic Carson City Mint, this coin shop has location location location. I was driving back from Tahoe, on a Sunday of all days, and they were closed.  I peered through the glass and the shop looks very well laid out.  If you get a chance to see the mint, this shop is a must see as well. Remember they are The Home of the  “Amazing Broken CC” Dollar.
