Buyer Beware | Counterfeit PCGS 1893-S Morgan Dollar

with one comment

If it wasn’t bad enough, here we have counterfeit PCGS graded key date coins.  Once again they all seem to be coming out of China, no surprise!  I just have to say , Buyer Beware!  These graded coins are being represented as “Sealed 100%1893 S MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR XF 40 PCGS.”  Sounds like some more word play to me, the value of the coin according to PCGS price guide is $8500.  I didn’t run the serial number, but I’m sure it wouldn’t check out either.  Once again I don’t know what if anything can be done about this, but I wanted to make my readers aware.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I absolutely HATE seeing these fake Morgans hitting the market. Now slabbed and graded fakes? Makes it much harder. I’ve been seeing a trend of fake silver bullion as well. Seems like the only counter measure (besides checking the serial) is to weigh them… but how is that possible with a online transaction!

Thanks again for posting this. It’s important to bring this type of awareness to other collectors/investors.
