Safe Find-Antique Yale Safe

with 2 comments

Yale, “The worlds favorite lock company”  Anyone who knows locks, knows the Yale name.  I myself have a not so secret lock fetish and probably have more locks than I will ever need.  The History of Yale is fascinating.  Yale has its roots in colonial America, when the family migrated to America, a few generations later around 1840, Linus Yale Sr. began designing and manufacturing high security locks at his Yale Lock Shop in Newport, New York. He specialized in expensive, handmade bank locks.  His son joined him about a decade later, and helped patent his unique design.  This safe is in Dallas and appears to be in great shape.  The owner claims it is over 100 years old, and even offers the serial number for authentication.  I did not know Yale made safes, so I was happy to come across this and be able to educate us all on the Yale legacy.

  1. i have a safe similar to the Dallas safe. Yale lock with patent dates 1871-1880. Painted on the door is E.C.Morris safe co. Boston, Mass. its been locked for many years without the combo. I’m planning on cutting it open to check for contents. Does it have value as a collectible? or should i blow it open for a you tube video?
