2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Coin

The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Coin is has been released for sale this month.  This has been a special project by U.S. Mint Director Ed Moy, which is a recreation of the 1907 High Relief Double Eagle coin, a true numismatic treasure of it’s own.  It will be minted at the West Point Facility in West Point, New York.

Obverse
Designer:  Augustus Saint-Gaudens
Description:  Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty, personified by a statuesque woman striding powerfully forward. Liberty is leading the way with a torch in her front hand and an olive branch in the back hand. The United States Capitol dome is also depicted in the background.

Reverse
Designer:  Augustus Saint-Gaudens
Description:  A young eagle flying during a sunrise is depicted on the reverse. The motto, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is on the edg
